On a blind and dark background, a skeleton with ashen bones stands out, a cigarette stuck between the mandibles. The resolutely modern touch and the strong chiaroscuro reinforce the magnanimity of this skull. The theme and colours of the work contrast with those found in his other paintings, such as Almond Blossom and The Siesta.
