Martinique Landscape - Paul Gauguin
Excellent
L'œuvre en bref
Martinique Landscape is a masterpiece in which Gauguin demonstrates his post-impressionist genius. He depicts Martinique in successive layers of vibrant colours and simplified forms, allowing the exuberance of the tropical vegetation to express itself. Shades of green, punctuated by touches of red and orange, depict the palm trees and local flora with incredible intensity, giving the canvas an almost enchanted atmosphere.
This genre scene, in which nature is the main subject, exudes a serene harmony. Over and above the shapes and colours, Gauguin succeeds in infusing the canvas with the very essence of Martinique - its warmth, luminosity and energy. Paysage de la Martinique is thus a celebration of the exotic landscape, highlighting the communion between man and his natural environment under Gauguin's bold brushwork.
