L'œuvre en bref
Robert Delaunay's Relief-disks is an orphic work that explores the relationship between geometric shapes, mainly circles and arcs, and bright colours. The composition presents a tangle of coloured discs, interlocked with each other, creating a dynamic and harmonious visual effect.
The contrasting colours and the superimposition of the discs create an impression of depth and movement, characteristic of the Orphic style. The visual rhythm, created by the circular shapes and chromatic relationships, guides the viewer's gaze through the entire composition. Relief-disks thus illustrates Delaunay's artistic approach, which seeks to express energy and movement through abstraction, colour and geometric forms. This work is an emblematic example of how Delaunay contributed to the evolution of abstract art in the early 20th century.
