River Tama and Mount Fuji - Hokusai
Excellent
L'œuvre en bref
Hokusai's painting "River Tama and Mount Fuji" illustrates the very essence of ukiyo-e, a genre of Japanese art depicting the floating world. The landscape is dominated by a soothing serenity: in the foreground, the banks of the river Tama, reflecting the shades of the sky while guiding our eyes towards Mount Fuji in the background, majestic and distant. Hokusai, the undisputed master of ukiyo-e, used contrasts and harmonious colours to emphasise the intimate relationship between man and nature, a recurring theme in his works. The result is a landscape that, although silent, speaks of ephemeral beauty and the passage of time.
