The second part of a diptych recounting theburning of the British Parliament in 1834, the present painting reflects theartistic explorations of William Turner. This precursor of Impressionism left his mark on the history of painting with his agitated skies, shot through withflamboyant colours. His works celebrate the triumph of the general atmosphereof a scene over the realism of its details. This is the second painting in this series, the first being The Burning of the House of Lords and Commons I.
