L'œuvre en bref
In Women with a Parrot, the composition is organised like a large decorative panel in vibrant colours. Flat areas of orange, yellow and blue structure the background, while broad black lines outline the female silhouettes and plant motifs. The parrot, integrated among the stylised leaves, brings an exotic and dynamic presence. The faces are refined, the bodies reduced to simple shapes, emphasised by the sharp contrast between colour and outline.
Painted during Léger's mature period, the work displays a more direct and graphic visual language. The influence of Cubism remains in the simplification of volumes, but the composition now favours legibility and colourful energy. Here, Léger develops a monumental and decorative aesthetic, designed for visual impact and balance between figure, nature and flat surface.
