Neoplasticism is an art movement that emerged in the early 20th century. The word 'Neo' means 'new', and 'plastic' refers to the Greek word for 'form or mould'. As such, Neoplasticism was about creating new forms. The artists associated with this movement were interested in simplifying objects to their essential forms. They believed that art should be based on mathematical principles and sought to create harmonious compositions using a limited palette of primary colours. Neoplasticism had a profound influence on the development of abstract art, and the techniques associated with this movement are still used by artists today.

Piet Mondrian was a 20th century Dutch neoplasticist painter, best known for his abstract paintings. He is considered one of the pioneers of abstract art and neoplasticism, and his style is known as Mondrianism. His early works were influenced by French Impressionism and Cubism, but he later developed his own unique style characterised by geometric shapes and primary colours. His most famous paintings include Composition with Red, blue and Yellow and Broadway Boogie Woogie.
