Danaë - Gustav Klimt
Gustav Klimt, as usual, puts here the eroticism of the woman in the foreground as well as the sensuality of the body. It is a representation of the myth of Danae, a character from Greek mythology. The cloth on which she is lying is richly embroidered with golden spheres; this thin and transparent veil barely covering her body adds sensuality and feminine softness. The golden rain on the left represents Zeus, forming a waterfall that passes between the young woman's thighs, symbol of fertilization. This symbol is reinforced by Danae's fetal position.
